Selective Soldering Machine

Selective Wave Soldering for High-Reliability Electronics

Selective wave soldering is an advanced wave soldering technique developed to address the evolving needs of through-hole component soldering. This method is ideal for soldering through-hole components in high-end electronic products, such as military electronics, automotive electronics, switching power supply products, and other industries demanding high soldering reliability.

The I.C.T selective soldering machine comes standard with renowned PRECIMETER electromagnetic pumps, Keyence PLC, Panasonic Servo motors and drivers, Jet Valve Spray Nozzles, and more. These components ensure the machine’s reliability and durability, aligning its design with well-known brands like ERSA and SEHO.

In the Chinese market, the selective wave soldering machine is a specialized tool widely used by many automotive electronics companies, including Toyota and Honda factories in China.

Selective Soldering Machine VS Wave Solder Machine

Comparison Factor Selective Soldering Machine Wave Soldering Machine
Application Scope Used for complex PCBs, suitable for few through-hole components and high-density PCBs. Used for high-volume production, suitable for PCBs with many through-hole components.
Soldering Quality Precise control of soldering area, suitable for heat-sensitive and high-density PCBs. Consistent quality but may not be suitable for heat-sensitive components and high-density PCBs.
Production Efficiency Suitable for small-scale or diversified production, each solder joint is individually processed. High efficiency for large-scale standardized production.
Equipment Cost Higher initial investment, suitable for high-precision and variable production, potentially lower operating costs. Lower initial equipment cost but requires more production space.
Process Flexibility High flexibility, can quickly adjust process parameters according to different products and soldering requirements. Low flexibility, difficult to quickly adjust once the production line is set up.
Environmental Impact Uses less flux, reduces waste, more environmentally friendly. High use of flux and cleaning agents, greater environmental impact.
Maintenance and Operation Requires skilled operators, more complex maintenance, but lower long-term operating costs. Easy operation, lower maintenance costs.

Selective Soldering Machine Applications for PCBA Types

PCBA

PCBA with tall components

This PCB has very tall components. The bottom row of components needs a very long nozzle for selective soldering machine. Dip soldering is not possible because the parts are too tall. Also, a wave soldering machine doesn’t have enough space for such large components.

PCBA

PCBA with tall components

When the PCBA has tall components, like the metal piece on the left, that can’t fit into wave soldering, selective wave solder machine is the best choice.

PCBA with tall components

PCBA with tall components

The PCB has tall components that can’t fit into a wave soldering machine. We need to use selective soldering equipment because the nozzle can reach higher parts.

PCBA

PCBA with a VGA port

The board is multi-layered and has a VGA port connected to a display that can easily be damaged by heat. Selective wave soldering machines is a good solution for this type of soldering work.

PCBA

PCBA with an LED display

This PCBA already has a display installed, and it can’t be exposed to heat. If it gets too hot, the display will be damaged. So, wave soldering can’t be used. The DIP on the back needs a longer nozzle for soldering. The selective wave solder machine nozzle works individually and won’t affect the display.

PCBA with heat-sensitive components

PCBA with heat-sensitive components

Heat-sensitive materials need to be soldered onto the PCB. If wave soldering is used, the entire board will heat up. Selective soldering only heats the specific area, so it’s safer for heat-sensitive parts.
